My Holistic Journey by
Amanda Mackay MIPHM
I

As a mature Therapist and Pilates Instructor, I enjoy providing natural holistic therapy treatments and teaching gentle Pilates exercises for mind-body healing and wellness.
I offer a wide range of treatments including Bowen Therapy, Reflexology, Body Massage, Facials, Reiki Healing and Flower Therapy,
I believe in providing a professional and personalised service to my customers and use high quality products with naturally derived ingredients from plants and botanicals, that have a beneficial effect and provide a sensorial approach to promote wellbeing.
Originally trained in Classical Ballet from an early age, I always loved the music and dancing. In my teenage years and early adulthood, the combination of the discipline and determination required for Dance, combined with music, I believe, really helped me to overcome set-backs and negative stressful situations. I soon realised that with little support, my career direction needed to change, so I spent many years of my early career in the Travel Industry, learning to stay calm in stressful situations and when working overseas, often found myself providing care and support to other people in not so pleasant emergency situations.
My entry into experiencing Holistic Therapies, happened after I had endured a 38 hour marathon traumatic birth and an epidural that went horribly wrong from the start, causing a leak in my Cerebral Spinal Fluid and further pain relief was not permitted. It was also a long, slow and painful recovery, both mentally and physically, with inadequate post natal clinical support.
I decided to embark on some treatments from a Cranial Sacral Osteopath, who treated both myself and my baby, which was so helpful and a real eye opening moment for me.
I was also a yearly sufferer of severe Tonsillitis and was constantly given antibiotics to manage the illness. Later I had my first experience of a Reflexology treatment, which was amazing but a few days after, it suddenly provoked what I clearly understand now, was a "healing crisis" - (I have never been fond of that description and try to avoid using it with my clients ... ) the Reflexology had prompted my body to rebalance and heal itself - it was a sudden attack of severe Tonsillitis, but it was to be the last ever since and that was in 1998 !!
This was the catalyst for change in my career and I began learning and practicing various Holistic Therapies since year 2000, starting with Reflexology, Body Massage and Indian Head Massage and obtaining a Beauty Therapy Diploma.
Further to this, I became a Bowen Therapy Practitioner in 2005 and qualified as a Pilates Matwork Instructor in 2007. I also returned to Ballet during this time and enjoyed teaching Adults Ballet for some years until I suffered severe Thyroid illness and was forced to take a long break.
Over many years of battling the ups and downs of Thyroid related problems and numerous traumatic life-experiences, accidents, injuries, operations, grief and loss of friends and family, loss of business, betrayal, divorce and a prolapsed disc in my neck with painful neuropathy, I have experienced far more than people would ever know, but I have always tried to lean on holistic therapies and natural remedies for help in relieving stress and pressure, for pain relief and to support my body and mind to rebalance and to find the path to recovery.
When faced with illness and pain, I have always resorted to Holistic treatments whenever possible, combined with other self help solutions, including appropriate Pilates exercises, natural Herbal and Flower remedies, Homeopathic remedies, Tissue Salts, dietary changes and much more recently, I have become far more enlightened about the importance of cleansing the energy and taking necessary measures to remove negative energy, grounding often, using healing sound frequencies and balancing the Chakras and energy flow with Reiki and Crystal Healing..
In my own many personal experiences, the Medical profession have often been unable to provide solutions for me and I could honestly say that in some instances, I feel I was badly let down by the system, so although naturally I would always suggest to seek clinical advice in the first instance, if you're anything like me and having listened to many reports from my clients over many years who have similar sentiments, it's preferable to avoid unnecessary drugs or medications if possible, especially as in recent times there is more understood about the negative impact of taking some medications, but also there is a need to take more time to look ( and listen ) for clues that create a holistic picture, in an effort to find alternative solutions to the underlying problems and imbalances within and to assist the body and mind in the healing process.
In more recent years, I have become far more spiritually awoken and this has given me far greater power, inner-strength and peace within. I now realise that helping and supporting others with finding their own positive approach to well-being, is definitely my calling.
I look forward to being of assistance to you !
